Hiroshige IV 1849-1925

The real name was Kikuchi Kiichiro, born into the doctor’s family Tanaka and adopted to the Kikuchi family. He was a master of calligraphy and taught paintings by several painters until he received his name ‘Rissho II’ in 1870 which suggests that he was trained under Rissho I, i.e. Hiroshige II. The artist produced Meiji genre prints of Tokyo as well as Samurai prints, but retired early to teach calligraphy to children. Hiroshige V is his son, Kikuchi Torazo.
