Teruhide Kato 1936-2015

Kimono fashion designer, printmaker, Kyoto Art College graduate. He designed kimonos until the age of 50, and then switched to printmaking. 1991 brought a solo exhibition in New York in Cat Iron Gallery. Kato’s woodblock prints are published with Unsodo agency and are often of tanzaku format. The editions are opened, not limited, which keeps the prices low. Kyoto Romance’, a book published by the artist is where Kato discloses his inspirations, illustrated by his works. His images recall the classic woodblock prints of the nineteenth century, however his style is clean and current, bringing to mind the best of contemporary Japanese design.
