Dragon Painting

Item code : EGt162

Artist Abe Tetsuya
Size 70 x 35 cm
Date Heisei (1989- )

Dragons are considered to be similar to that of guardian angels within the Japanese culture, they are talismans against evil and bring good luck.  Dragons are commonly seen at Shinto shrines and temples, the images or depictions of dragons are associated with good fortune and prosperity.
As each work is done by hand each image is unique. This technique of painting a dragon with one stroke has been introduced in Japan for many centuries. However there are very few who practice this art form today.
The painting includes calligraphy done by the artist, 'Kofuku', which means 'Happiness'.
