This teapot is shaped like a quail with a handle on the cover that is modelled as a fly. All details are executed realistically and with great care. This is a collector's item. Further quail teapots are currently available.

This interesting type of hand-crafted stoneware originates from the province of Ise. First produced during the late half of the 19th century, typical Bankō products are teapots of characteristic designs and peculiar decoration. Some of them are fully or partially glazed with an abundance of colours, while some wear no glazing at all. At times, the designs include sculpture-like reliefs in very inventive shapes: realistic birds and animals are a typical ‘trademark’, as well as the ‘mask tea pots’, decorated with theatre masks on each side, including the lid.
